Have you ever heard of the famous "Six Degrees of Separation" theory? It suggests that you can connect with any stranger in the world through no more than six mutual acquaintances.
After reading this article, you might find that those "mysterious connections" which once required five layers of intermediaries now appear directly on your social media feed.
The "Six Degrees of Separation" theory was first proposed in 1967 by Harvard psychologist Stanley Milgram. It states that no more than six people separate you from any stranger on Earth.
Decades later, this theory remains remarkably relevant — but with a modern twist.
The story began when someone posted a message online, seeking help to contact their surgeon. Surprisingly, the doctor himself responded in the comments.
Netizens joked that this was the "'Six Degrees of Separation' theory without needing six people".
Inspired by this, netizens launched a massive "people-finding" campaign. Requests ranged from connecting with celebrities and billionaires to reuniting with long-lost friends, and even attempts to "break dimensional barriers".
As algorithms and internet networks replace traditional social hubs, the six degrees are being compressed into three or fewer connections.
