Topic: Protein Homeostasis in Cardiovascular Disease – Challenges and Opportunities

Main purpose

We will review the basic knowledge of protein homeostasis (proteostasis), followed by summary of cardiovascular disease specific aspects. We will then discuss pathophysiology of proteostasis under various cardiovascular diseases. We will complete this special issue by reviewing challenges and opportunities of applying proteostasis in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Outline of pathways

1. Background of protein homeostasis, including translation, post-translational modifications, localization, and degradation.

2. Specific regulation of protein homeostasis in cardiovascular system under various disease conditions.

3. Potential therapies targeting protein homeostasis to treat cardiovascular disease.
