這是第49天讀英文版《傲慢與偏見》，前面講到賓利勸說達(dá)西跳舞。
“I certainly shall not. You know how I detest it, unless I am particularly acquainted with my partner. At such an assembly as this, it would be insupportable. Your sisters are engaged, and there is not another woman in the room, whom it would not be a punishment to me to stand up with.”
這段文字是達(dá)西的回應(yīng)，有幾個(gè)生詞阻礙我沒瀏覽明白啥意思。
1. detest
詞性：動(dòng)詞
含義：厭惡；憎恨
用法：“how I detest it”，我很厭惡。
2. acquainted
詞性：形容詞
含義：熟悉的；了解的
用法：“particularly acquainted with my partner”，特別熟悉舞伴。
3. partner
詞性：名詞
含義：舞伴；伙伴
用法：“my partner”，伙伴。
4. insupportable
詞性：形容詞
含義：無法忍受的；難以容忍的
用法：“it would be insupportable”，無法忍受的。
5. engaged
詞性：形容詞
含義：已訂婚的；忙碌的；占用的
用法：“Your sisters are engaged”，你的姐妹們有舞伴。
6. punishment
詞性：名詞
含義：懲罰；處罰
用法：“it would not be a punishment to me”，與不熟悉的女士跳舞是一種折磨。
陌生詞掃了一遍，我試著把文字轉(zhuǎn)化為中文：
“我當(dāng)然不想跳舞。你知道我很煩，除非舞伴是熟悉的人。在這個(gè)舞會(huì)上是無法忍受的。你的姐妹們正忙著，在這個(gè)房間沒有其他的舞伴，和不熟悉的人跳舞對(duì)我是折磨，還不如站著呢。”

為了更好的理解達(dá)西這番話，我逐句拆開讀一遍：
1. "I certainly shall not."
"certainly" ，表干脆拒絕。
2. "You know how I detest it, unless I am particularly acquainted with my partner."
detest：強(qiáng)烈反感。
particularly acquainted：特別熟悉。
3. "At such an assembly as this, it would be insupportable."
"at such an assembly as this" ，介詞短語作狀語。
assembly：集會(huì)，指舞會(huì)上的社交聚會(huì)。
insupportable：無法忍受的。
4. "Your sisters are engaged, and there is not another woman in the room, whom it would not be a punishment to me to stand up with."
engaged：已訂婚的，有了舞伴。
punishment：懲罰。
