Interpreting this building standing on the Pacific coast of Mexico from an artistic perspective, it is clearly a condensed narrative of tropical ecology and humanistic philosophy. The result of a decade of research by AMEZCUA Architecture, between the beach and coconut grove of Brisas de Zicatela, a cross-shaped layout unfolds a declaration on sustainable living - the 1,200-square-meter building complex is like an organic life growing on 600 square meters of land, 12 60-square-meter suites and 120-square-meter apartments are arranged along the axis, and the 480-square-meter green courtyard is embedded in the space like breathing, making every floor-to-ceiling window a frame for capturing the sea view.
The building facade is made of black fiber cement board, which reproduces the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban burning cedar craft. The wood grain texture casts shadows of varying depths under the scorching sun on the coast, which not only echoes the traditional fire prevention wisdom, but also resists salt spray erosion with modern materials. Walking into the room, the anti-corrosion treated pine beams are exposed like bones, forming a rigid and soft dialogue with the polyurethane insulation layer in the fiber cement wall. The first ray of sunlight in the morning passes through the high-performance glass windows, casting diamond-shaped spots on the polished concrete floor. When walking barefoot, you can feel the subtle coolness of the material due to the temperature difference. It is the building's gentle response to the tropical climate. The cleverness of the cross-shaped structure lies in the elimination of the shared walls between the suites. The sea breeze can pass through the hall from four directions, accompanied by the rustling sound of palm leaves in the courtyard, becoming the flowing background music in the space.
The 120-square-meter multi-functional space is the emotional hub of the entire building. In the morning, yoga mats are spread out in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, and practitioners' breathing is synchronized with the waves in the distance; in the afternoon, the copper bar reflects the sunlight, and digital nomads are typing on keyboards at the long table, with the endless sea view framed by the transparent glass wall behind them; when night falls, the smoke from the barbecue area interweaves with the stars reflected in the swimming pool, and the warm touch of the wooden benches allows strangers to talk naturally. This design that combines work, socializing, and resting breaks the closedness of traditional houses - when someone plays guitar on the terrace, the music will float to every corner along the open corridor, becoming an impromptu episode of community life.
The building's sustainable concept is hidden in every detail: the rainwater collection system on the roof is as dense as capillaries, transforming tropical rainstorms into nourishment for the green plants in the courtyard; the water source recycled and purified by the water treatment plant reflects the blue of the sky and the black of the building in the swimming pool; native plant communities spread along the base of the building, lizards shuttle on the gravel paths, and hummingbirds land among local flowers. Architect Julio Amezcua once said: "Architecture should respect and sublimate the place", and this concept is particularly moving at dusk - when the sunset gilds the black facade, the residents read in the hammocks swinging on the terrace, the sound of the sea breeze turning the pages of the book interweaves with the cheers of the surfers in the distance, and the building is no longer a cold container, but a carrier of time that carries the memories of coastal life.
From Japanese shochu craftsmanship to Mexican tropical style, from the cross-shaped spatial wisdom to the ecological logic of rainwater circulation, KINEKI La Punta tells a story about balance in architectural language: between the privacy of 12 suites and the openness of shared courtyards, between the durability of modern materials and the warmth of handcrafts, between the commercial needs of tourism development and the responsibility of ecological protection. When the last ray of twilight sinks into the Pacific Ocean, the black fiber cement board on the facade of the building gradually merges with the night sky, and only the lights in the courtyard are scattered like stars - this is the poem that AMEZCUA dedicated to the Oaxaca coast, making living an art of living in collaboration with nature.
