應(yīng)用國際大會

不久前，以“轉(zhuǎn)型”為主題的首屆學(xué)術(shù)英語和專業(yè)英語應(yīng)用國際大會在寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)順利舉行。大會通過互聯(lián)網(wǎng)進(jìn)行全球直播，來自清華大學(xué)、北京大學(xué)、香港大學(xué)、復(fù)旦大學(xué)、格拉斯哥大學(xué)、利茲大學(xué)、謝菲爾德大學(xué)等全球一流院校和機(jī)構(gòu)的近400位海內(nèi)外英語教育專家學(xué)者通過主旨發(fā)言、專題研討、微論壇、工作坊、課例展示等豐富多樣的形式進(jìn)行分享交流。

會議研討主題包括批判性思維的培養(yǎng)、教材研發(fā)、英語作為教學(xué)媒介在中國的應(yīng)用、跨國和跨文化的高等教育、教師培訓(xùn)以及多元化的學(xué)生支持等，探討了學(xué)術(shù)英語及專業(yè)英語在教學(xué)中的趨勢、挑戰(zhàn)及最佳實踐。

根據(jù)主辦方寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)英語語言教學(xué)中心（CELE），本次大會旨在全方位展示全球英語教育的發(fā)展成果，加強(qiáng)海內(nèi)外院校和教育組織在英語教育領(lǐng)域的交流與合作，為中外英語教育工作者搭建一個國際化、專業(yè)化的交流平臺，助力英語教育高質(zhì)量發(fā)展。

寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)教學(xué)副校長Philip Seltsikas教授及寧波市教育局副局長陳金輝先生出席了大會開幕式并致辭。陳金輝先生用英語做了流利的演講，他代表寧波市教育局對來自全球各地線上線下的參會者表示熱烈的歡迎。

他指出，在全球一體化和國際化的背景下，發(fā)展學(xué)術(shù)英語和特定領(lǐng)域的專業(yè)英語是現(xiàn)代教育的重要組成部分，也是進(jìn)行學(xué)科研究、建立溝通交流、促成商業(yè)合作的重要工具。因此英語教育需要緊跟時代潮流，適應(yīng)未來教育的發(fā)展變化。他還介紹到，寧波諾丁漢大學(xué)是寧波國際化教育的一張靚麗的名片，自2004年建立以來，學(xué)校已向世界各地輸送了兩萬余名畢業(yè)生，不少同學(xué)進(jìn)入世界頂級名校就讀。根據(jù)最新的2022屆本科畢業(yè)生數(shù)據(jù)，留學(xué)深造的畢業(yè)生超三成被世界排名前10的頂尖學(xué)府錄取，近九成入讀世界百強(qiáng)院校，希望這些優(yōu)秀的學(xué)生能夠為社會進(jìn)步、為家鄉(xiāng)發(fā)展貢獻(xiàn)青春力量。

值得一提的是，此次國際大會的組織單位——寧諾英語語言教學(xué)中心，是世界上規(guī)模最大、教學(xué)質(zhì)量最高的學(xué)術(shù)英語教學(xué)團(tuán)隊之一，不僅為寧諾學(xué)生提供高質(zhì)量的學(xué)術(shù)英語教育，同時通過各類教師培訓(xùn)，讓知識無地域限制地流動，將卓越的教學(xué)理念和資源分享給更多人。例如從2017年開啟的鄉(xiāng)村教師公益培訓(xùn)項目，到現(xiàn)在，已經(jīng)有超過500名鄉(xiāng)村英語教師從中受益。

寧諾英語語言教學(xué)中心正在通過自身的發(fā)展，將專業(yè)能力進(jìn)行轉(zhuǎn)化，發(fā)揮國際化高等教育的優(yōu)勢作用，用知識服務(wù)社會。

Gathering top universities worldwide, 2023 UNNC EAP/ESP Conference is driving the high-quality development of English education

The 2023 UNNC EAP/ESP Conference with the theme of “Transformations in Context”, organised by the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) was successfully held at the University of Nottingham Ningbo China last few days. The conference was also live-streamed globally on the internet, nearly 400 speakers and participants from Tsinghua University, Peking University, Hong Kong University, Fudan University, the University of Glasgow, University of Leeds, University of Sheffield were sharing, learning and exchanging ideas from plenary speakers’ presentations, featured speakers’ presentations, small forums, workshop and others.

Conference speeches or discussions covered a range of topics, including developing critical thinking, materials creation, EMI in the Chinese content, transnational / transcultural higher education, teacher development and supporting students. These topics were presented in different formats, attracting active participation and reflection from both online and offline attendees.

According to the conference organisers the CELE, this conference aimed to showcase the achievements of English education from all perspectives, strengthen the exchange and cooperation among universities and educational organisations in the field of English education, and provide an international and professional platform for English education workers from China and abroad to exchange ideas and contribute to the development of English education.

At the opening ceremony of the conference on the afternoon of 19 May Professor Philip Seltsikas, Vice-Provost for Education and Student Experience of UNNC and Mr Chen Jinhui, Deputy Director of the Ningbo Education Bureau were invited. Mr Chen Jinhui delivered the welcome speech in fluent English. On behalf of the Ningbo Education Bureau, he warmly welcomed participants from around the world, both online and offline.

At the same time, he mentioned that developing English for Academic or Specific Purposes is an essential component of education in the contexts of internationalisation and globalisation. It is necessary for study, communication and commerce, and needs to keep pace with the times and adapt to meet future trends in education. He also introduced that UNNCis an excellent example of international education in Ningbo. Since its establishment in 2004, the university has cultivated more than 20,000 graduates, and many of these students have been accepted into the world's top universities. He said that he was very pleased to learn that from the latest data on the 2022 graduating year, more than 30% of graduates who pursued further studies were admitted to universities that are ranked top 10 in the world, and nearly 90% of them were admitted to the world's top 100 universities. He expressed his hope that these outstanding students can make their own contributions to both their hometowns and other corners of the world.

It is worth mentioning that the organising unit of this conference, the CELE, is one of the largest and most well-known departments for teaching English for Academic Purposes in the world. It not only provides high-quality academic English for students at UNNC, but also continuously supports English education training for teachers, letting knowledge flow without geographical boundaries and sharing excellent teaching concepts and resources with more people. For example, since 2017, more than 500 rural English teachers have benefited from their training.

CELE is transforming its professional capabilities through its own development, leveraging the advantages of international higher education to serve society with knowledge.
